Re-branding is usually carried out after a period of operation of any brand. The reason may come from the idea of refreshing the brand or the fact that the old branding has exposed many weaknesses during the time. The significant thing of any re-branding project is to make sure that the loyal customers are able to realize the same brand in a new cover; at the same time, to gain the public’s positive review on the effectiveness of the brand.

More and more brands appear with more sophisticated identities. They are beautiful but somehow build up a wall between the brand and customers. The customers have too much information to see in a complicated structure, which takes them longer to find what they need in the brand. That is not what Design Studi- Online wants. We want to show the information in the shortest and simplest way; therefore, our customers can easily understand the messages we wants to deliver and avoid misunderstandings, in the same time, they are still impressed by our unique character.

Design Studi- Online after quite a time of operation has decided to rebrand, in order to follow the general direction of the whole brand: minimalism in removing the unnecessary details, keeping the core information, and also showing the personality of the brand.

1. Logo

The new logo has not many differences from the old, as the name and color still remains. The significant difference here is the simplicity: the new logo is simpler than the old.

DS-O’s name is quite unique with a mark of hyphen “-” replacing the letter “O” in the word “Studio”. The hyphen appears throughout the brand identity and becomes the unique mark of DS-O. As in English, parts of a compound word are connected by a hyphen. The arrangement of the name demonstrates the story of DS-O: This is a Design Studio working Online. The hyphen also symbolizes the connection with the customers by taking advantage of the Internet.

The old logo has a rectangular frame outside the name, showing the shape of the logo. However, there is no need of shape to show shape at any time, so this detail is considered as unnecessary, that’s why DS-O has decided to get rid of it in the new logo. The new one still has high level of identity but in a simpler way. The word is also enlarged to show the clearer information that DS-O wants the customers to see. Especially, without border, DS-O is ready to step out of the comfort zone, to face challenges and experience new things.

2. Business card

DS-O’s new logo remains the general direction of the logo: getting rid of the unnecessary details, keeping only the important information.

On the old business card, the front side has the logo printed on the white background, while the back side contains important information arranged in the order of eyesight concentration. This design is fine but in the re-branding project, DS-O has decided to change it. On the new card, the front side contains the new logo printed on the dark green background. Thanks to the outstanding color, the new card seems to be more attractive than the old one. The most important information is in the center of the back side, which draws attention greatly.

Especially, the username of the card’s owner is put on the right side, marking the personality here. With only username, people can look for the owner on the Internet easily. Username here is the symbol of the logo’s hyphen, showing the homogeneity between the front and back side. It is worth noting that such an important element like the username is put on the right side also demonstrates the style of DS-O: every important thing is on the right. The username, a “hyphen”, is a part of the brand’s character: the hyphen appears widely in the brand identity.

In the business card design, DS-O has balanced the “visual weight”, creating the balance to make the design more attractive: the left block of many lines of information in light grey versus the right block of only the username in dark green; arrangement of the margin.

New stationary has simple design following the brand’s style, removing the unnecessary. The biggest difference in the new Letterhead is the balanced design. Therefore, in the new Letterhead, DS-O decided to change the structure, arrange the heavy and light information blocks in the balanced way. Following the brand’s style, the most important information block is put on the right side.

The colors of the new stationary are dark green and dark red with larger cover (filling the background), making good impression on the eyesight. From there, the brand’s signature colors imprint deeply inside viewers’ mind.

4.Packaging

Realizing the practical demand, ensuring the customers’ convenience, DS-O extend to printing service to be able to complete a full process of design and production. Therefore, packaging to protect the products on delivery to the customers is an essential part.

Following right in the minimalism in the direction of the brand, DS-O packaging is extremely simple, containing basic information such as product name, brand stamp, receivers’ information displayed in the middle, easy to see and making the customers comfortable on getting DS-O’s products. Delivering the products is the final stage in the working process between DS-O and customers, so we truly want to offer the best experience for them.

5. Website:

DS-O’s old website has the center layout and many unnecessary details. Moreover, the pages have various layouts, which looks good visually but makes it hard on the users when interacting with the website.

Learning from the lessons, following the minimal direction, DS-O’s new website has overcome the above problems. The website reduces greatly the unnecessary details such as frames, blocks and wordy sentences, only focuses on the images and short texts, avoids misunderstandings. Every picture on the website is chosen thoroughly as they are “talkable” pictures. The website only uses two elements to show information which are words and colors, using them to create the feel of main and supporting blocks without unnecessary decorative lines or shapes. Following DS-O new styles, all important information is placed on the right side, as can be seen clearly in the website structure. Main information, important images are aligned to the right.

A change is made in the homepage. The old homepage barely provides information, only pictures and menus. So on the new one, website’s contents are posted so users can gain the main idea and choose the needed content right away. The pages are homogeneous in layout, display, clear classification; therefore, users’ routine is made, which increases the interaction between users and website.

Re-branding is a strong effort of DS-O in the direction of minimalism and increase in connection with customers.

4. Packaging
